First Gaia Data Release

The Gaia Science Team and Data Processing Consortium Executive (DPACE) announced, after a joint meeting to evaluate the progress in data processing, that the first Gaia data release (Gaia-DR1) is scheduled for the end of summer 2016.
Although the data quality looks very good, the two agreed on not to make any compromises in the validation activities starting at the beginning of April. Thus, by the end of summer 2016, the first Gaia data release with all its contents will be available.
